2026 Municipal Election
The next Belleville municipal election will be held on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026.
Voters will be able to cast their ballots through Internet or Telephone Voting. In addition, paper ballots will be available at the Voter Assistance Centres prior to Election Day on Oct. 26, 2026.

Eligibility
You may be eligible to run in the municipal election if you:
- Are a Canadian citizen
- Are at least 18 years old
- Live in Belleville, or own or rent property in the city (or are the spouse of an owner or tenant)
- Are not disqualified by law
Filing your Nomination
To run for office in the City of Belleville municipal election, you must complete and file both a Nomination Paper and Endorsement Form.
Please download and print the required forms to complete them. For accessible versions, contact the Clerk’s Office at clerksoffice@belleville.ca.
Those wishing to submit a nomination are encouraged to set up an appointment ahead of time to ensure the required staff are available.
Your nomination must include:
- Endorsements from 25 eligible voters supporting the nomination (not required for school board trustees)
- Valid government-issued photo identification, such as:
- Ontario driver’s licence
- Passport
- Ontario health card
- Canadian Citizenship card
- The required nomination filing fee:
- $200 for Mayor
- $100 for all other offices
- Any other documentation required by the City Clerk
Accepted payment methods for the nomination fee include cash, certified cheque, debit or money order. All nominations must be signed by the candidate.
Nominations may be filed in person or by an agent:
- During regular business hours from May 1, 2026 to Aug. 20, 2026
- On Nomination Day (Aug. 21, 2026) between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Information for Voters
Elections Ontario is responsible for maintaining the Permanent Register of Electors for Ontario, commonly known as the Voters' List. In order to vote in an upcoming Municipal or Provincial Election, you must be on the Voters' List.
Confirm, update or add your information through Election Ontario's RegisterToVoteON.ca. Your name must be on the Voters' List in order to cast a ballot.
Updating Your School Support
The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) is legislatively required to collect school support information. You can update your school support designation through MPAC's Online School Support Designation.
