Take Back the Night Rally
Rallies are held world-wide at night because women are often told not to walk alone at night for fear of being assaulted and its their fault for not doing what they are told.
The march highlights the ways sexual violence and rape culture permeate the lives of women over their lifetime and allows women to express the frustration of being held to such unrealistic expectations.
This year Take Back the Night will focus on education and how it impacts sexual violence in our communities. It is the group's belief that education is a means of healing a culture that validates and enables the continuation of sexual violence.
The event is free for everyone.
There will be poetry readings, art activities and the march.
They are accepting written submissions from community members about the impact education in schools, homes and community have on sexual violence.
