Meetings

The City of Belleville has a variety of committees that are working constantly to serve you better. Below is a list of all recent meetings that you can review. Click on the meeting name to review the details of that meeting. Once this page opens you will also be able to review details from other meetings of the same type.

Regular Council meetings are held every two weeks at City Hall in our council chambers.  They start at 4:00 pm precisely.  Requests from delegations should be in at least two weeks prior to the meeting.

 

All meetings are streamed live on the City’s Youtube channel.


Special Council Meeting

The Planning Advisory Committee provides advice and makes recommendations to Council regarding land use, development and community planning.

Meetings are held at 5:30 p.m. on the first Monday of the month and are streamed live on the City’s Youtube channel.

The Economic Development Committee provides strategic recommendations to City Council regarding the resources required to support investment attraction, business growth and retention, tourism and economic development issues management.  The EDC provides the Economic Development Division staff with information and input on issues and projects of particular importance to the local economy.  The committee is currently development a 5-year Economic Development Strategic Plan for Council’s approval and launching an Industrial Sector BR+E.

The Committee of Adjustment is a quasi-judicial decision-making body that considers applications for Consent (to sever land), applications for minor variances from the Zoning By-law, and any other variances specified under the Planning Act R.S.O 1990.

 

Meetings are held at 3:30 p.m. every 3rd Thursday of the month unless otherwise noted.

The mandate of the Belleville inclusion committee is to:

  • Develop an action plan for eliminating racial discrimination
  • Share success stories and implementation strategies with other like-minded communities
  • Develop activities and actions for the community that will help eliminate racial discrimination
  • Annually recognize the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (March 21) and the anniversary of the Canadian Coalition of Municipalities against Racism and Discrimination

The Belleville Accessibility Advisory Committee (B.A.A.C) is comprised of members of council, staff representatives, and members of our community. The majority of community member representatives must be individuals with a disability.

We support the City to uphold our responsibilities under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005. Our goal is to create an inclusive community, free from discrimination, where all people have equal opportunity to participate in community life. With this in mind, we offer feedback and advice on a wide range of municipal activities.

Meetings: First Tuesday of the month from 3-5pm. Meetings are in-person in the SMB room at City Hall and also there is a zoom link posted on the agenda. 

 

 

The Finance Committee is comprised of the Mayor and two Council members and assists, advises and makes recommendations to Council regarding the fulfillment of Council's oversight responsibilities relative to City financial reporting, external audit requirements, asset management, internal controls, and compliance with financial regulations and policies.

 

The Finance Committee provides a forum for communication between Council, the External Auditor and management, and facilitates an impartial, objective and independent review of financial management practices.

The Grant Committee is committed to assisting not-for-profit and other community organizations based in Belleville who promote the well-being of our community.

Cultural Exchange Committee

The mandate of the Committee is to:

  • Manage visits and other twinning events between Belleville and Gunpo Korea
  • Assist staff as necessary with organizing the student exchange and friendship flights with Lahr Germany
  • Provide recommendations to Council on matters pertaining to twinning activities

The Committee provides advice and support to City staff and City Council to ensure that Glanmore National Historic Site continues to be a major community facility, an education and historical resource for the community, and a tourist attraction for the City of Belleville. The Committee ensures that museum goals and activities remain relevant to the community, and monitors Glanmore National Historic Site's Strategic Plan. The Committee also ensures that the Commemorative Integrity of Glanmore National Historic Site is respected and maintained.

The Heritage Committee advises Council on local heritage matters and assist them in carrying out heritage conservation programs.

 

Meetings are held virtually the first Thursday of every month.

The Lighting Display and Gateway Signage Committee works co-operatively on the Christmas Festival of Lights display, BELLEVILLE sign, Canada Day fireworks and gateway/wayfinding signage.

The mandate of the Transit Advisory Committee is to:

  • Review the transportation (transit) services in the City in terms of efficiency, effectiveness, and accessibility for all citizens;
  • Provide recommendations to Council and staff on proposed or preferred modifications to transit services

The committee meets monthly and is comprised of three members of Council and four citizen appointees.

The Transportation Committee’s mandate includes the following:

  • Review transportation related issues as may be identified for review by a City Department or City Council
  • Act in an advisory capacity to City Council on issues specific to transportation and provide recommendations to Council regarding any suggested improvements
  • Review, advise and assist in implementing transportation policies, programs and facilities that help to increase active transportation

Chair : Councillor Garnet Thompson

The mandate of the Belleville Youth Advisory Committee is to:

  • Represent all youth interests in the City of Belleville by advising City Council, City staff where appropriate and other community institutions on matters pertaining to youth
  • Undertake any other advisory duties as requested by City Council with the common goal of making Belleville a better place for all youth and ensuring youth have a voice
