Clarification Regarding Sidney Street and Bridge Street Intersection Action
Posted: August 23, 2019
It has come to the City’s attention that an online petition is being circulated asking viewers to sign it requesting the City take action in regard to improving the intersection of Sidney Street and Bridge Street West. This is already an active City project.
The process of completing a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (EA) to identify the preferred option for improvements to the Sidney Street / Bridge Street West intersection and the widening of Sidney Street from Bridge Street West to Wilkins Street is currently in progress. Those interested in learning more about what this will entail are encouraged to visit:
The improvements being considered for this section of Sidney Street and the intersection with Bridge Street West are significant. This initiative is therefore subject to follow a Schedule ‘B’ Class EA including public consultation and an Environmental Project File. Completion of an EA is the first step in the process to finalizing a design and proceeding to construction.
On August 19th, 2019 a Public Information Centre was held at City Hall with displays showing project background information. Staff, from the City and Project Lead Consultant, was available to answer questions. A second Public Information will be held. Subject to comments received and the receipt of necessary approvals, the City of Belleville intends to proceed with the planning, design, and construction of this project.
“The City identified this intersection as a concern and is actively working to improve these conditions for the safety and convenience of our residents,” added Belleville Mayor Mitch Panciuk.
