Official Grand Opening of Medigas Picnic Shelter
Posted: August 20, 2019
For the past few weeks residents have been enjoying the beautiful new Medigas Picnic Shelter beside the Moira River in West Riverside Park. On Thursday, August 22 the completion of this new outdoor treasure will be celebrated with a formal opening ceremony at 2 p.m.
The fully accessible outdoor space was made possible through the collaboration of the City of Belleville and funds raised and donated by the Medigas, Celebrity Classic in the amount of $75,000 - 50% of the project cost.
Our Kids Celebrity Classic is a registered charity that was first established in 1987 with the primary objective of helping Quinte area children faced with physical and mental challenges, and their families, live better lives. The Rick Meagher Medigas Golf tournament, which became the Medigas Celebrity Classic, has a 30 year legacy of initiating inclusive initiatives throughout the City. In addition to this newest venture, they also created the Rich Meagher – Medigas Play Park at West Zwick’s Park, the Tom Gavey Medigas Pavilion at West Zwick’s Park and the Rick Meagher – Medigas Rotary Play Park at West Riverside Park.
“Community partners such as Medigas bring so much to the table for Belleville residents and words cannot express how deep our appreciation is for all they do to make our City a richer, more inclusive place to live,” said Mayor Mitch Panciuk. “If you have not visited West Riverside Park this summer, you really must. This picnic shelter is amazing and when you view the area as a whole, nestled along the Moira River with the pirate ship playground, splash pad, Belleville Rotary Music Garden and the three pop-up businesses, you’ll understand why West Riverside has been the go-to park this season.”
Residents are encouraged to join the celebration on Thursday, August 22 at 2 p.m. in West Riverside Park.
