Residents Encouraged to Participate in Memorial Arena and Legion Property Decisions
Posted: November 25, 2019
The process of determining the future of City of Belleville surplus properties at 15 Market Square (Memorial Arena) and 132 Pinnacle Street (Legion 99) has been a deliberate and planned process. In the summer of 2019, a request for proposals to rejuvenate the Memorial as a skating facility received no submissions. The next step was to issue a request for property development proposals. Five finalists have been selected from these submissions and they will present their proposals to City Council and the community at the Nov. 26 Special Council meeting.
Nov. 26 – Four Development Proposals to be presented to Council and Residents at Special Council meeting beginning at 5 p.m. in Council Chamber.
Dec. 9 – Public Invited to podium to provide feedback. Those not able to attend the meeting can submit their input by emailing the City Clerk at email@example.com or completing the online survey.
Jan. 2020 – Council will determine which proposal to accept and announce their decision.
“As a Council we understand the importance of these two properties to the City of Belleville – not only historically, but also what they can be in the future,” said Mayor Mitch Panciuk. “We believe this decision should be shared with our residents. We encourage members of the public to attend the Special Council meeting on Tuesday the 26th and hear the proposals of these four finalists or watch the live stream – you will be amazed at the creativity and scope of their submissions. Following these presentations we want to hear what you think. Whether it’s at the Dec. 9 public meeting, by emailing the City Clerk, or by completing the online survey, please take the time to share your thoughts so we can make a decision that takes the community’s wishes into consideration.”
Please participate in our survey.
