The City of Belleville issues marriage licences for couples getting married in Ontario. A marriage licence is valid for 3 months from the date it is issued and is valid for use anywhere in Ontario. The fee is $140.00 paid by cash, credit, debit or online.
Application Process:
- The Marriage Licence Application Form must be completed and submitted online. Click the button below to submit a Marriage Licence Application Form.
Marriage Licence Application Form - You will receive an email (please check your junk folder) with your completed application attached. Please print this form. Both parties must sign the printed form.
- Bring 2 pieces of ID each, and divorce documentation, if necessary, to your appointment. Photocopies will not be accepted. If only one person is present, documents for the absent party are still required.
- Marriage Licences are available by appointment only. Please contact jstitt@belleville.ca to schedule an appointment. Appointments take place at City Hall and can be made during regular business hours (Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.). Complete applications will be processed in under 20 minutes. The fee must be paid at this time.

Any person who is at least 18 years old may marry in Ontario. Any person who is 16 or 17 years old (other than a widow, widower or divorced person) may only marry with the written consent of their legal guardian. A special consent form is available from the City for this purpose. |

If you were Divorced outside of CanadaIf you were divorced outside of Canada, you will need to provide certain documents to prove that you are no longer married. How to get a Marriage Certificate after marriage |
A marriage certificate is a legal record of a marriage. It lists the date and place of the marriage, and names of the people who were married. You may need this document to:
Before you can get a marriage certificate, your marriage needs to be registered. The officiant who performed the marriage will send your completed and signed marriage licence to ServiceOntario so the marriage can be registered. You can order a marriage certificate about 6-8 weeks after this happens. Note: A Record of Solemnization of Marriage may be provided by your marriage officiant immediately following the marriage ceremony. This is a souvenir of the marriage and is not the same thing as a marriage certificate. |
