The Community Garden program was initiated by the City of Belleville’s Green Task Force in 2012 to give residents a place to grow vegetables and flowers in designated parks. Anyone living in Belleville can apply, no special skills required. Click here to see a digital interactive video of our community garden bed locations.

Frequently Asked Questions
How are garden beds assigned? |
Garden beds are awarded in March of each year by lottery draw. If your name is drawn, you will be assigned a garden bed and given exclusive use for the season (May to October). If your name is not drawn, you will be put on a waiting list. CDC Quinte also offers gardening space to Belleville residents. |
Is there a fee? |
No. The Community Garden program is free. |
What are garden beds like? |
The raised garden beds are made of untreated cedar or hemlock. They measure approximately 4 feet wide by 10 feet long by 16 inches high and provide 40 square feet of growing space. They are filled with a mixture of soil and compost. Most beds are lined with a plastic dimple membrane to separate the moist soil from the wood to prevent rot. |
What is provided? |
Each garden is equipped with water taps. We also provide soil and compost at the site for gardeners to top up their beds and a designated area to put garden waste. Gardeners are asked to bring their own garden tools. |
