Parking Tickets

The City of Belleville - Parking Services manages around 1,000 parking spaces within a three-block radius of the downtown core. Please call 613-968-6481 if you have any questions or for more information on parking in the city. Our Parking By-law details the rules and regulations on where and when parking is allowed on all City streets. 

Downtown Core Parking

Parking is available in the downtown area at a cost of $1.00 an hour. There is no charge for parking after 5:00 pm or on weekends. Please see our parking map to view City-owned parking lots.

When parking downtown, please note the following:

• Be aware of and read any signs carefully to determine if any restrictions are in effect
• Check the information on the meter or pay and display machine before activating the machine
• Check for the days and hours the meter is in effect
• Verify the amount of time you registered and purchased
• Pay attention to any maximum parking time limits or other restrictions
• Ensure your parking voucher is visibly displayed in your vehicle
• Be courteous - do not park in disabled parking spaces

What do you do if a parking meter does not work?

If you are parking in an on-street space and the meter is not functioning, note the number on the parking meter and the street name and call us at 613-968-6481 and we will alert parking maintenance.

If you are using  HotSpot and the Zone number is not visible on the meter, please use the zone number closest to you.  NOTE: there is large signage within the parking lot with the zone number indicated.

Residential On-Street Parking With No Meters

On-street parking may be available in residential areas subject to restrictions. Please contact us for further information. Please read on-street parking signs carefully to find out if and when parking is permitted.

• Be courteous. Do not park in disabled parking spaces
• Stay away from corners
• Leave bus stops for buses
• Know the difference between “No Parking” and “No Stopping”
• Respect residential parking restrictions
• Do not park on/or obstruct sidewalks
• Be aware of winter parking restrictions and overnight parking restrictions
• If in doubt- err on the side of caution

Please Note

There is no overnight parking on any curbed street all year long and the maximum time limit a vehicle can be parked on any street in a 24 hour time period is 12 hours, unless otherwise posted.

Parking Tickets

If you receive a parking ticket, you can pay your fine, have your ticket reviewed, or take the trial option.

You can only pay tickets online if they are less than 50 Days old.
For tickets older than 50 days you must use one of the following payment methods.

Parking Infraction Review

You can have your parking infraction reviewed. A Parking Ticket Review is limited to specific circumstances that may have existed at the time the ticket was issued, such as

• a valid City of Belleville Parking Permit or Voucher was displayed in the vehicle (proof of permit required)
• a valid Accessible Parking Permit was properly displayed in the vehicle (proof of permit required)

Complete your Review in Person

Please complete a Parking Ticket Review form in person at City Hall, 169 Front Street. You should complete review forms as soon as possible after the ticket was issued. For more information on having your parking infraction reviewed contact us:

Trial option

You must complete and submit a Notice of Intention to appear in Court. You can find this option on the reverse side (pink copy) of your ticket under Defendants Options.

Please note:

• Every parking ticket comes with a 15-day deadline to either pay the fine or dispute the ticket.
• If you neither dispute the ticket nor pay the fine before the 15-day deadline, a Notice of Impending Conviction (NIC) will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle – at this point, you can still dispute your ticket or pay the fine.
• If you do not respond by the due date on the NIC, a Notice of Fine and Due Date (NFDD) showing the set fine, plus court costs will be sent to the registered owner of the vehicle, which will result in an automatic conviction that is registered with the Ministry of Transportation.
• If the set fine, including the additional court costs, is not paid by the due date shown on the NFDD, the offence becomes eligible for plate denial and the matter then goes to the Ministry of Transportation.

Parking Violations and Fines

What happens if I don't pay a parking fine?

If you fail to pay parking fines, there will be:

• An increase in fine costs
• Denial of your vehicle license plate renewal by the Ministry of Transportation unless outstanding fines/fees are paid
