Short-Term Accommodations
Council approved the Short-Term Accommodations Bylaw which took effect March 28, 2022.
What you need to know:
- Short-Term Accommodation Dwelling" or "STA" means a dwelling or dwelling unit, or any portion of it, that is rented for a period of less than 30 days, but does not include a Motel, Hotel, Hospital, Tourist Inn or accommodations where there is no payment exchanged.
- A Short-Term Accommodation shall have no more than three (3) rooms individually rented; and sleeping accommodation for a maximum of four (4) individuals. Unless it is an entire single-detached Dwelling Unit rented under a single booking.
- A Short-Term Accommodation Licence expires one year after the date of the issuance.
- There must be a minimum separation distance of 100 metres between Short-Term Accommodation dwellings. Exempted from this is the BDIA, described in City By-law 9275
- New Applications $1,000.00, Renewal $300.00

No, there must be at least 100 metres between STA’s. |

No, you need to have an agent who can respond within 30 minutes of a call. |
How to Apply
Step 1 - Complete Application
Obtain your STA application from the following sources or locations:

Step 2 - Gather Supporting Documentation

Step 3 - Submit Application
Submit your complete application and supporting documentation by:

By mail/or in-person: City of Belleville, Licensing Officer, 169 Front Street, Belleville, ON, K8N 2Y8
Step 4 - Application Reviewed
The application will be reviewed by the licensing officer and the following:
City Planning Department
City Building/By-law Department
City Finance Department
Belleville Fire Prevention
The departments listed may reach out to you directly if any additional information is required.
Step 5 - Application Outcome
The application is either approved or denied based on inspection reports and reviews of the application.
If approved – the licence fee of $1,000.00 will be administered and the licence will be issued.
If denied – the application may proceed to the appeal.
Step 6 - Payment of Licence
An invoice will be issued and payment can be made:
By mail/or in-person: City of Belleville, Licensing Officer, 169 Front Street, Belleville, ON, K8N 2Y8; OR
Online, City of Belleville website/online services
Step 7 - Licence Issued
Once the licensing fee is paid, the licence will be issued.
