Belleville Fire & Emergency Services is reminding motorists to pull over when they see a vehicle with flashing green lights.
Flashing green lights are used by volunteer firefighters responding to emergencies in their personal vehicles. While they don’t look like a typical emergency vehicle, it is just as important to give them the right of way. Every second counts in an emergency.
Here’s how you can help volunteer firefighters get to an emergency as quickly as possible:
- Stay alert: Always stay alert when driving. Regularly check your mirrors for emergency vehicles approaching.
- Pull over: If you see a vehicle with flashing green lights, give them the right-of-way by pulling over to the side of the road as soon as it is safe to do so.
- Spread the word: Share this message with your friends, family and community members.
To help raise awareness, Belleville Fire & Emergency Services’ volunteer firefighters have created a video about flashing green lights. Watch the video on the City of Belleville’s YouTube channel or social media platforms, and share it to help spread the message.
Together, we can ensure our volunteer firefighters have the support they need to protect and serve our community.
