Procedure
All claims made against the City must be submitted in writing using our Insurance Claim Form or by providing us with the following information:
- Name, address and telephone number
- Name, address and telephone number of any witness
- Date, location and time of occurrence
- A short description of what happened
- Type of damage or injury that happened
- Estimates or invoices as a result of the occurrence
- Original signature of person making the claim
Note that in some cases you have ten days from the date of incident to file your claim as stated by the Municipal Act.
We suggest that in all cases of damage you immediately contact your insurance company or broker. Depending on the nature of the claim the insurance policy that you purchased may provide for greater compensation than you may be able to legally recover from the City. In addition, if your insurer believes that the City is responsible for the damages, they will seek compensation on your behalf as stipulated in your insurance policy.
