About the project
The City of Belleville is conducting a review of a few key by-laws, including the Property Standards By-law, Clean and Clear Yards By-law, Noise By-law, Littering By-law and Short-Term Accommodation By-law. The goal of the review and update is to keep our local rules relevant, effective and aligned with our community's changing needs, laws and policies. This review allows us to update old rules and ensure they comply with provincial and federal legislation.
- Property Standards By-law: Sets the rules for maintaining both occupied and unoccupied buildings, ensuring safe and healthy living standards for everyone.
- Clean and Clear Yards By-law: Outlines how land should be maintained outside buildings, like keeping grass at a reasonable length and yards free of debris.
- Littering By-law: Takes a stance against littering on private and public properties, including parks and roads.
- Noise By-law: Regulates allowable noise types and times, helping everyone enjoy a more peaceful community.
- Short-Term Accommodation By-law: Outlines requirements for operating a short-term accommodation in Belleville.
Community Engagement
We would like to thank everyone who took part in our By-Law Review Survey earlier this year and provided their comments on the Property Standards By-law, Clean and Clear Yards By-law, Noise By-law and Littering By-law. This feedback was used in the development of the new Land Maintenance By-law 2025-117 (formerly Clean and Clear Yards and Littering By-laws) and Noise By-law 2025-122, and will be used in the development of a new Property Standards By-law later this year. Copies of the new by-laws can be found at Belleville.ca/Bylaws.
We are now seeking reviewing the Short-Term Accommodation By-law. Operators, businesses and community members were invited to take the online survey in September to provide their input on current STA regulations in Belleville. Thank you to everyone who took part! A report on feedback received and recommendation will come to council at a later date.
